Under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 (Urban) in Madhya Pradesh, activities are continuously ongoing in towns. Under the mission, all activities will be conducted until 1 October 2026. For this, targets have also been set. Among these activities, the main objectives are to institutionalize sanitation behaviors while making them practical, along with the management of greywater. In the coming years, efforts are being made to make the cities of the state garbage-free, achieve freedom from open defecation, maintain the standards of ODF+, ODF++, Water+, and ensure maximum public participation to make cleanliness a mass movement. All actions under Swachh Bharat Mission are being ensured by the Department of Urban Development and Housing.
Goals of Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0
Under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 in the state, the goals include source segregation, complete processing of all components of waste including construction and demolition waste, phased reduction of plastic waste and single-use plastic, and treatment of all legacy waste to make all cities garbage-free. Special attention is being given in this mission to completely stop direct human involvement in the cleaning of sewers and septic tanks, and instead to make arrangements for cleaning through machines. In urban areas, it is a priority to treat and reuse greywater before it enters water structures by developing facilities like sewage treatment units, interception and diversion in drains, etc.
