State Government Committed to Ensuring Fair Prices for Farmers Produce : CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the state government is working across all sectors for the welfare of farmers. Taking a farmer-friendly decision, the state government has sent a proposal to the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare for the procurement of summer Moong and Urad at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Registration for MSP procurement will begin from June 19. Directions have been issued to all concerned departments and agencies.

CM Dr. Yadav mentioned that the government is also supporting the establishment of agro-based industries to empower farmers economically and is committed to ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their crops. In a discussion with farmers' associations, he reaffirmed that under the "double-engine government" led by Prime Minister Modi, the state will progress with coordinated efforts. The Chief Minister added that the government will also provide necessary assistance for the upcoming crop season and is consistently organizing agricultural fairs to make advanced seeds and farming equipment available to farmers.

Minimum Support Price

As per the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), Government of India, MSP for Summer Moong is Rs. 8,682 per quintal and MSP for Urad is Rs.7,400 per quintal. The proposal submitted to the Centre by the State Department of Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture includes details regarding farmer registration, quality norms, transportation, payment systems, and publicity strategy.

Harvest Period and Production Estimates

Moong is harvested between the third week of May to the first week of June in 36 districts in estimated area is 14.35 lakh hectares and estimated production is 20.23 lakh metric tones. Urad is harvested in the same period in 13 districts. Estimated area is 0.95 lakh hectares and estimated production is 1.24 lakh metric tones.

MSP Registration Process

To register for MSP procurement of summer Moong and Urad, farmers must submit Crop detail, Aadhaar number, Bank account number and IFSC code and Self-attested copy of land ownership document (Bhoo-Adhikar Rin Pustika). Bank accounts must be in a nationalized bank or a District Central Cooperative Bank. Tenant (Sikmi/Batai) farmers must also submit a self-attested copy of the lease agreement.

After procurement, farmers will be given a computer-generated receipt by the procuring agency containing the farmer’s name, bank account number, and payable amount. The receipt will be signed by the procurement center in-charge.

Procurement will follow the uniform specifications set by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, for the Rabi Marketing Year 2025–26. Procurement will be undertaken by cooperative institutions as per these quality standards.

To ensure fair procurement, officials from cooperative institutions, Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation (Markfed), MP Warehousing and Logistics Corporation, and the departments of food, agriculture, cooperation, and revenue will be trained at the district level. Awareness campaigns will also be conducted so that farmers do not sell their produce at low prices to middlemen.

Transport of Procured Crop

Transporters will be appointed and contracted to move the procured Moong and Urad from procurement centers to warehouses. Daily monitoring of procurement volumes at centers will be conducted. An e-procurement software will issue transport receipts, which transporters must acknowledge before receiving the produce. If a designated transporter fails to deliver, district-level committees will arrange alternatives. In case of delays, penalties will be imposed as per rules.

Farmer Facilities at Procurement Centers

Procurement centers will be equipped with sheltered seating areas, clean drinking water, Toilets and First aid boxes. Equipment for quality testing of the procured crops will also be provided, and a detailed testing protocol will be followed. A banner will be displayed at each center indicating Center name, FAQ (Fair Average Quality) standards, and Payment details. Centers expecting high procurement volumes will be allocated additional staff. Required infrastructure such as laptops, printers, batteries, etc., will be kept operational.
