Complete Metro Rail Projects with Quality and within Deadlines: CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed that the metro rail projects in the state must be completed with high quality and within stipulated timelines. He emphasized that the Bhopal and Indore metro rail projects should be completed on priority. He also instructed that all departments, including Public Works and related agencies, should work in coordination to avoid any difficulties during implementation. CM Dr. Yadav was reviewing the progress of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Projects on Friday at Samatva Bhavan, CM Residence.
Bhopal Metro Rail Project
The Bhopal Metro Rail Project was approved in November 2018. The total length of both lines in the city is approximately 30 kilometers, with 30 stations, including 2 underground stations. The estimated cost of the project is ₹10,033 crore. Initially, 27 trains with 3 coaches each will be operated, which can be expanded to 6-coach trains in the future.The Orange Line- From Karond Chauraha to AIIMS, Saket Nagar, Blue Line- From Bhadbhada Chauraha to Ratnagiri Tiraha. The metro depot will be established at Subhash Nagar
The first phase of the Bhopal Metro — from Pul Bogda to AIIMS (7 km, 8 stations) — is targeted for completion by August 2025. The second phase (Karond Chauraha to Pul Bogda, 9 km, 6 stations) will include 2 underground stations. The third phase (Bhadbhada Chauraha to Ratnagiri Tiraha, 14.16 km) will have 14 elevated stations. Both the second and third phases are scheduled for completion by June 2028. Pul Bogda will serve as the interchange station for the Orange and Blue Lines. Earlier, metro testing between Subhash Nagar and Rani Kamalapati Station was conducted in October 2023.
Indore Metro Rail Project
The Indore Metro Project was also approved in November 2018, with a total length exceeding 31 kilometers and 28 stations, including 7 underground stations. Initially, 3-coach trains are operational. In future phases, up to 25 trains may be operated, with the number of coaches expandable to 6, as required. The estimated cost is ₹12,088 crore. Major stations along the Yellow Line include: Gandhi Nagar, ISBT, Vijay Nagar Chauraha, Patrakar Colony, Railway Station, Rajwada, Bada Ganpati, and Airport. The metro depot is located at Gandhi Nagar.
Phase 1 (Reach 1): From Gandhi Nagar to Super Corridor 3 (6.3 km, 5 stations) is already operational. The inauguration was done by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on May 31, 2025. Phase 1 (Reach 2): From Super Corridor to Malviya Nagar Chauraha (approx. 11 km, 11 stations), targeted for completion by October 2025. Phase 2: From Malviya Nagar Chauraha to Palasia Chauraha (5.34 km, 5 elevated stations), scheduled for completion by December 2027. Phase 3: From Palasia Chauraha to Gandhi Nagar, an 8.70 km underground section with 7 underground stations, targeted for completion by December 2028.
Comprehensive Mobility Plans and Alternative Analysis Reports
During the review meeting, updates were also presented on the Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMP) and Alternative Analysis Reports (AAR) for Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur. The metro proposals are at various stages of approval. Bhopal: CMP and AAR submitted; MRTS corridors to be presented to stakeholders. Indore: CMP and AAR submitted; MRTS metro corridors proposed. Gwalior: CMP and AAR approved by stakeholders; light metro corridors proposed. Ujjain and Jabalpur: CMP and AAR to be presented to stakeholders. After state government approval, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) will be prepared for the proposed corridors.
Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing Smt. Pratima Bagri, Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary to CM Dr. Rajesh Rajora, Additional Chief Secretary for Urban Development and Housing Shri Sanjay Kumar Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary for Finance Shri Manish Rastogi, and senior officials from concerned departments attended the meeting.
