Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that the integrated model of Mercabarna, located in Barcelona, could be highly beneficial for Madhya Pradesh. In light of the state's increasing agricultural production, there is a growing need for improved post-harvest management and export systems. CM Dr. Yadav made these remarks during his visit to Mercabarna on the third day of his visit to Spain. Spread over 250 acres, Mercabarna is Europe’s leading food logistics hub, where systems for production, storage, processing, and distribution operate in an integrated manner.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the Mercabarna model can empower Madhya Pradesh to address the challenges of production, post-harvest value addition, processing, storage and access to global markets. Drawing inspiration from this model, the state’s food producers can be prepared to compete globally.
CM Dr. Yadav was welcomed by Mercabarna’s CEO, Shri Pablo Villanova. Shri Villanova expressed interest in Madhya Pradesh. He noted strong prospects for cooperation between India and Spain in areas such as agricultural logistics, food processing, and market infrastructure. He also conveyed special interest in Madhya Pradesh and agreed on future bilateral knowledge-sharing partnerships.
Madhya Pradesh to Adopt Models like ‘Farm-to-Fork’
Chief Mnister Dr. Yadav appreciated Mercabarna’s implementation of the ‘farm-to-fork’ model, cold chain technology, packaging standards and traceability systems. He said that such global experiences would be integrated into the development of mega food parks, agri-export zones and logistics hubs in Madhya Pradesh. The state is now advancing not only in agricultural production but also in value addition, global market reach and innovation-driven solutions.
Inspiration for Innovation, Zero Waste, and Green Solutions
CM Dr. Yadav reviewed Mercabarna’s initiatives—the Food Bank, Zero Waste Management and Food-Tech Incubation Model for startups. He remarked that these efforts are highly relevant to Madhya Pradesh’s innovation-focused agricultural vision. These international success stories, he noted, will be adopted in the state's new agri-business clusters and rural entrepreneurship programs.
Commitment to Exports and Global Standards
CM Dr. Yadav, recognising Mercabarna’s role in the food markets of Spain and the European Union, said that the visit offers valuable insights for Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural exporters and startups. Studying Mercabarna’s quality control, food safety and international protocols will accelerate the state’s march toward meeting global standards.
Open Invitation for Investment and Partnerships
CM Dr. Yadav extended an open invitation to Mercabarna’s management and officials to invest and collaborate in Madhya Pradesh. Emphasising Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, he said the state is moving forward through global partnerships. Madhya Pradesh is emerging not just as a destination for investors but as a reliable partner.
A New Era of Agri-Based Development
CM Dr. Yadav is laying the foundation for a second revolution in agri-based industries in Madhya Pradesh by this visit. It signifies the state’s ambition to position itself as a strong partner in the global food supply chain. With innovation, quality, green approaches and export-oriented strategies, Madhya Pradesh is now realising the vision of ‘Advantage MP’ in the agricultural sector as well.
