Jaiswal, an officer of the 1998 batch of the Indian Foreign Service, assumed the role as Bagchi was appointed India’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva.
Throughout his diplomatic tenure spanning over twenty years, Jaiswal has fulfilled assignments in Portugal, Cuba, South Africa, and at India’s permanent mission to the UN in New York.
Additionally, Jaiswal has contributed to the External Affairs Ministry, serving as the deputy secretary overseeing relations with the United States and as joint secretary managing diplomatic ties with nations in western Europe.
In mid-2017, he was assigned to serve the President as the joint secretary responsible for international relations.
