Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the legendary playback singer and actor Shri Kishore Kumar was an extraordinary artist who didn’t just sing songs but lived them. His life was full of joy and spontaneity, and his unique, carefree style made him one of a kind. The Chief Minister announced that the Madhya Pradesh government will organize a two-day annual festival in his memory.
CM Dr. Yadav addressed the two-day National Kishore Kumar Samman Alankaran Ceremony virtually from the Chief Minister’s residence on Tuesday evening. During the event held in Khandwa, the birthplace of Kishore Kumar, renowned lyricist Shri Prasoon Joshi was conferred with the Kishore Kumar Samman Alankaran.
Congratulating Shri Joshi, CM Dr. Yadav said that he has created magic with his pen. His works, from film lyrics to popular advertisement jingles, have deeply resonated with people. His songs and poems dedicated to Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, and the divine mother are especially cherished. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav highlighted that Khandwa is not only the birthplace of Kishore Kumar but also the karmabhoomi of Dada Makhanlal Chaturvedi. The region is blessed by Dada Dhuniwale and is also home to the revered Omkareshwar Dham.
CM Dr. Yadav fondly recalled several aspects of Kishore Kumar’s life — from his college days in Indore and the anecdotes that inspired his songs and acting, to his remarkable performances in films like Padosan and Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, his cheerful nature, and his close bond with his elder brother Ashok Kumar.
CM Dr. Yadav Sang ‘Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana’ in Tribute
To pay homage, the Chief Minister sang lines from Kishore Kumar’s iconic song ‘Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana’, expressing heartfelt respect on the occasion of the singer’s death anniversary.
Accepting the honour, lyricist Prasoon Joshi thanked Chief Minister Dr. Yadav and the Madhya Pradesh government. He said that Kishore Da’s laughter will forever echo in the hearts of millions. “He had a childlike innocence, something rare in today’s world. Shri Joshi said, “He gave life to the words of lyricists and became the voice of hope and optimism”. He also sang Kishore Kumar’s soulful song ‘Aa Chal Ke Tujhe Main Le Ke Chaloon…’ during the event.
Tribal Affairs Minister Shri Vijay Shah also addressed the gathering. The event was attended by Khandwa MP Shri Dnyaneshwar Patil, Shri Prasoon Joshi’s wife Smt. Arpana Joshi, MLAs Shri Narayan Patel, Smt. Kanchan Tanve, Sushri. Chhaya More, Khandwa Mayor Smt. Amrita Yadav and several public representatives. The event was anchored by Shri Ashish Dave. Secretary, Culture Department, Shri N.P. Namdev read out the citation presented to Shri Prasoon Joshi.
