India's Goal: Staying at the Top - Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo on September 16, 2024, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. During the event, he emphasized that India's 1.4 billion citizens are working hard to make India one of the top three economies in the world. He praised India's diversity, scale, capacity, and efficiency, stating that the country is an example of "Indian Solutions for Global Applications." The Prime Minister highlighted that the gathering of global representatives to discuss the future of green energy is a significant step toward this goal.

PM Modi emphasized that India's development plan is to become a developed nation by 2047. He said that terms like "Green Future" and "Net Zero" are not just slogans but commitments by India. He stressed that India is preparing a foundation not just for the present but for the next thousand years. India’s aim is not only to reach the top but to remain there. To achieve this, India is focusing on solar energy, wind energy, nuclear, and hydro power.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav also presented the state's solar energy initiatives at the event. He said that Madhya Pradesh is a state capable of making the impossible possible. The Chief Minister shared that the state's renewable energy capacity has grown over 14 times in the last 12 years. In 2012, the state’s renewable energy capacity was less than 500 megawatts, but now it accounts for over 21 percent of the total energy capacity.

Chief Minister Yadav highlighted the success of the Rewa Solar Project, which is taught as a case study at Harvard University. This project provided solar energy at a cheaper rate than coal-based energy, with electricity being supplied to the Delhi Metro. The solar park in the Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch area has also been a breakthrough, offering solar energy at a minimum rate of ₹2.14 per unit. Yadav mentioned the state’s plan to install solar rooftops on all government buildings by 2025.

The state government has identified 15,000 hectares of land for developing 7,500 megawatts of solar energy and aims to establish 3,000 megawatts of wind energy. Additionally, the world's largest 600-megawatt floating solar project is being developed on the Narmada River at Omkareshwar, which will also reduce water evaporation.

Dr. Yadav also announced the establishment of an advanced manufacturing zone in Narmadapuram, worth ₹464.65 crore, to promote renewable energy. Investors will be offered attractive incentives, including land at token prices and discounted electricity rates for the first five years. The state government is keen to make it easier for investors to set up renewable energy projects.

The event saw participation from Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Union Ministers Prahlad Joshi and Shripad Naik were also present, along with energy ministers from various states. International representatives from Germany and Denmark, including their ministers, also attended the event, praising India's efforts in the renewable energy sector.
