In a good news for Punekars, Parvati BJP MLA Madhuri Misal will take the oath as a cabinet minister on Sunday at 4 pm.
Speaking with ANI, Misal said, "I just got to know that my name is also on the list (of cabinet ministers in the newly formed Mahayuti government). The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 4 pm. Our government has always respected women... Whatever responsibility the party gives me, I will fulfill it."
From the city, Kothrud MLA and former minister Chandrakant Patil will also be in cabinet. Misal’s name was doing rounds in political circles, considering that she has won from the Parvati seat for the fourth time.
Madhuri Misal (BJP) won the 2024 election with 1,18,193 votes, defeating Ashwini Kadam (NCP-SP), who received 63,533 votes. In the 2019 election, Madhuri Misal had won with 97,012 votes.
The Cabinet expansion is taking place more than two weeks after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his two deputies, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, were sworn in on December 5. The Mahayuti alliance had come under fire from the opposition for not naming its cabinet despite having an overwhelming majority.
The Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 witnessed a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance, securing a landslide win with 235 seats. The results marked a significant milestone for the BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party with 132 seats.
The Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party also made notable gains, with 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
