North India's Largest Floating Solar Project Inaugurated in Omkareshwar
The largest floating solar project in North India has been commissioned in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh.
Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh: The largest floating solar project in North India has been commissioned in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh. State Renewable Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla announced that the project will generate 90 megawatts of power.
The 90-megawatt floating solar project, the largest in central and north India, is located in Omkareshwar, Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Renewable Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla said, "The Omkareshwar floating solar project, costing Rs 646 crore, was inaugurated on August 8. This project has been developed under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. It is the largest solar park in India. It is the largest floating solar project in central and north India."
Operated by SJVN Green Energy Limited Minister Rakesh Shukla informed, "The Omkareshwar solar project is operated by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN. With the commissioning of the project, the total installed capacity of SJVN has increased to 2466.50 megawatts. Before this project, 196.5 million units of electricity are expected to be generated in the first year and 4,629.3 million units in the next 25 years. After commissioning, the project will reduce carbon emissions by 2.3 lakh tonnes and make a significant contribution to achieving the central government's target."
Build, Own and Operate for 25 Years Rakesh Shukla said that by 2070, net zero carbon emissions will be achieved. The project will also help in water conservation by reducing water evaporation. This project has been developed on a build, own, and operate basis for 25 years through competitive tariff bidding. The floating power plant has been developed on the backwaters of the Omkareshwar dam.
