Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that the tripartite contract for the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project, which will make Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan prosperous and farmers prosperous, is going to be signed in Jaipur on 17 December in the presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The continuous efforts being made for 20 years to realise the dream of former Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee of river linking are now taking concrete shape. The project was proposed in the year 2004 to provide irrigation and drinking water facilities to Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, but due to lack of consensus on water sharing between the two states, the project could not be implemented. Now that glorious day has come when there will be a tripartite agreement for the scheme and the work of the project will move forward. This project is the result of tireless efforts of the Central and State Government.
Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat said that this is a matter of great fortune for the state. This project will change the picture and fate of Chambal and Malwa region. Social and economic sector will progress. This project will irrigate 6 lakh 13 thousand 520 hectares in Malwa and Chambal region of the state and drinking water will be available to a population of 40 lakh. Apart from this, water will be made available as per the demand of farmers in Bhind, Morena and Sheopur districts through the modernization work of about 60 years old Chambal right main canal and distribution system.
The project will benefit 3217 villages of Guna, Morena, Shivpuri, Bhind, Sheopur, Ujjain, Sehore, Mandsaur, Indore, Dhar, Agar Malwa, Shajapur and Rajgarh districts of the state. Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project will prove to be a boon for the farmers and citizens of both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. This will provide abundant water for irrigation to farmers and new doors of development will open. The project will bring prosperity to both the states. Farmers will be able to double their yield with the water obtained from the project, which will make the state prosperous along with their families.
The estimated cost of Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project is 72 thousand crores, in which Madhya Pradesh will spend 35 thousand crores and Rajasthan will spend 37 thousand crores. In this scheme of the Centre, 90 percent of the total cost will be central share and 10 percent state share. The total water filling capacity of the project will be 1908.83 cubic meters. Also, 172 million cubic meters of water will be reserved for drinking and industries. 21 dams/barrages will be constructed under the project.
