Deputy Chief Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla stated that improving the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) requires regular health check-ups and care for adolescent girls, as well as monitoring women both during pregnancy and post-delivery. He emphasized that a healthy adolescent girl becomes a healthy mother in the future. Along with departmental efforts, support from social organizations and the general public is essential to ensure that pregnant women and adolescent girls remain health-conscious and receive family support. Public awareness is crucial to achieving 100% institutional deliveries.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Shukla visited the UNICEF Bhopal office and reviewed the various health and nutrition-related activities being carried out in Madhya Pradesh by UNICEF.
Shri Shukla assured UNICEF officials and staff of the government’s full cooperation in their activities. He stated that through integrated efforts, health systems in the state would be strengthened, making Madhya Pradesh a leading state in health standards across the country. He highlighted the state government’s continuous efforts to improve MMR and IMR standards while maintaining close coordination with health experts from India and abroad.
The Deputy Chief Minister noted that there is no shortage of resources, and continuous expansion of health infrastructure is underway. Medical educational institutions are being expanded to ensure the availability of medical and paramedical manpower. He mentioned that over 33,000 positions are being filled in the health and medical education department. Along with improving health services, Shri Shukla stressed the importance of social awareness to identify high-risk pregnancies on time and ensure proper treatment.
During the meeting, Shri Shukla sought suggestions for collective efforts to improve IMR and MMR in the state. Dr. Anil Gulati, Office In-Charge of UNICEF Bhopal, provided an overview of the various activities being carried out by UNICEF in Madhya Pradesh. UNICEF Health Specialist Dr. Prashant Kumar and other officials from UNICEF Bhopal were present.
