Iran and Israel Agree to Ceasefire, Claims Trump; Tehran Denies Receiving Proposal

Washington/Tehran, June 24 – Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Monday that Iran and Israel have agreed to end their 12-day-long war. The announcement, made on Trump’s Truth Social platform, comes just hours after Iran launched missiles at a U.S. airbase in Qatar in retaliation for American strikes on its nuclear facilities.

Trump stated, “Iran and Israel have reached a full and complete agreement for a ceasefire, to begin in about six hours, lasting 12 hours, after which the war will be considered officially over.”

He congratulated both nations for their "endurance, courage, and wisdom" in agreeing to end what he termed the "12-Day War" and expressed hope that the ceasefire would proceed smoothly. However, neither Tehran nor the Israeli government has issued any official confirmation of the ceasefire.

Tehran Rejects Trump’s Claim, Calls It 'Deception'

An Iranian official, speaking to CNN, rejected Trump’s remarks, saying, “We have received no ceasefire proposal. At this moment, the enemy is carrying out aggression against Iran, and we are on the brink of escalating our counterattacks. We have no ears for the lies of our enemies.”

Despite this, Reuters cited a senior Iranian official who confirmed that Tehran had, in fact, agreed to a ceasefire.

Conflict Began on June 13

The conflict erupted on June 13 when Israeli forces launched strikes across Iran targeting military and nuclear installations, reportedly killing senior Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the operation aimed to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Iran, which denies having a military nuclear program, retaliated by launching missiles into Israeli territory. On June 22, U.S. B-2 bombers struck key Iranian uranium enrichment sites in Natanz and Fordow. The next day, Iran responded by firing missiles at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

Trump’s ceasefire announcement has added a new layer of complexity to the fast-evolving conflict, even as questions remain about its legitimacy and acceptance by both sides.
