Following Pakistani aggression, India conducted retaliatory strikes, codenamed Operation Sindoor, between May 7th and 10th. Addressing the media on Sunday, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai stated that these strikes resulted in approximately 35 to 40 Pakistani military personnel casualties.

Lt Gen Ghai explained that Operation Sindoor was designed with the specific military objective of punishing those responsible for and planning terrorist activities, as well as dismantling their infrastructure. He emphasized that the initial strikes on May 7th were precisely targeted at terrorist elements and their infrastructure, deliberately avoiding any other infrastructure, particularly Pakistani civilian or military installations.

However, on the evening of May 7th, India faced a series of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and small drone attacks from Pakistan aimed at both civilian and military areas. These were successfully intercepted, with three drones managing to land but causing minimal damage.

The situation escalated on the night of May 8th and 9th, with Pakistan deploying drones and aircraft into Indian airspace across the border in largely unsuccessful attempts to target various military infrastructure. Simultaneously, violations along the Line of Control (LoC) by Pakistan recommenced, leading to intense engagements.

Air Marshal AK Bharti elaborated that India responded with coordinated and calibrated strikes across the entire Western Front, targeting Pakistani airbases, command centers, military infrastructure, and air defense systems. He specifically mentioned that the bases struck included Chaklala, Rafiqui, and Rahim Yar Khan, conveying a clear message that such aggression would not be tolerated. Subsequent strikes were carried out at Sargodha, Bhulari, and Jacobabad.

While acknowledging potential casualties on the Pakistani side, Air Marshal Bharti stressed that India's primary focus was on hitting terror targets rather than counting casualties. He stated that it was Pakistan's responsibility to account for any losses incurred.
