Grammys 2024: A More Restrained Red Carpet

Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena, tributes to first responders and wildfire victims influenced a more subdued fashion atmosphere than usual. While the Grammys are known for over-the-top looks, many attendees opted for more restrained styles.

A prevalent trend was all-black attire, worn by artists like Miley Cyrus in a cut-out leather Saint Laurent dress and Olivia Rodrigo in a slinky halter-neck Versace gown. Lady Gaga's dramatic Vivienne Westwood ball gown also contributed to the somber mood. Some attendees, however, chose lighter fare, such as J Balvin's long silk Dior Men coat and Billie Eilish's sailor hat paired with her Prada suit.

Many guests displayed blue heart pins to show support for Los Angeles, the Grammys' frequent host city. Brittany Howard, Jaden Smith, and Jacob Collier were among those wearing the pins to benefit MusiCares, a charity assisting music professionals affected by the recent wildfires.

Feathers were a popular choice for adding drama. Sabrina Carpenter impressed in a custom JW Anderson gown with feather accents, while Cardi B's Roberto Cavalli Couture mermaid gown featured beads, sequins, and a trailing feather-like plume.

Ruffles and cascading tulle also made a statement. Nominated artists Charli XCX and Chappell Roan both wore eye-catching gowns by Jean Paul Gaultier. XCX sported a custom look from the Spring-Summer 2025 runway, while Roan chose a vintage piece from Gaultier’s Spring 2003 couture collection.

Of course, the Grammys wouldn't be complete without some revealing looks. Nude-toned outfits ranged from subtle, as seen in Madison Beer's strapless gown and the sheer detailing of Shakira's Etro dress, to more daring. Ye's wife, Bianca Censori, caused a stir by removing her coat to reveal a nearly see-through slip dress.
