A powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck northwest China just before 12:01 a.m. Monday, injuring and killing hundreds of people, the China Earthquake Network Center said. The epicenter of the quake was in China's mountainous Gansu province, killing at least 100 people, with at least 11 deaths reported in neighboring Qinghai province. The powerful impact damaged thousands of homes, as well as roads, water supplies and power lines, local media reported.

Authorities have sent dozens of ambulances and hundreds of rescue personnel to help the victims and deal with the aftermath of the quake. As of 6:30am on Tuesday, the number of those treated for various injuries had grown to 300 people, according to the Global Times.
